Confidentiality
Limits of Confidentiality
I believe that the conversations between the counselor and those I treat are private and will not discuss any part of those conversations with anyone unless given written permission to do so by the client. There are a few exceptions to the foundational rule. The Licensed Professional Counseling Board of Texas requires that certain situations not be kept confidential. These include:

If the counselor believes the client is at great risk for harming himself/herself or harming someone else.

If the client discloses knowledge of a child, elderly person, or someone who is mentally disabled being abused or neglected.

If a judge subpoenas the counselor’s records.
04.
If the client reports a sexual relationship with a previous counselor.
05.
If the counselor believes that the client will be helped by consulting with another mental health professional.
